for the first two weeks of august chris was in portland taking an iv sedation course. he was learning how to sedate people to do dentistry on them. this is a great option for patients who have serious anxiety about going to the dentist and need some extensive work done or even just a root canal or something like that. the dental office chris is going to take over in january currently offers this so we decided it would be good to continue the service.... plus as chris now knows, its just kinda fun too. you end up getting to do a few more surgical procedures since you offer this.
chris thought portland was an interesting place. he mostly only saw downtown where the course was taking place so its probably true its a little nicer outside of down town but he was a little put off by how dirty it seemed downtown (which is true of most large city downtowns). he did go to a few food places his sister catherine had suggested that she loved... laughing planet cafe, voodoo doughnuts, flying elephant cafe. he also took the opportunity to go see a couple movies since he was alone every evening from 5pm on and had time to kill. the first 10 days of the course were all lectures and the last 4 days they actually sedated patients. those last 4 days chris got to sedate about 20 people and do dental work on them. he said by the 20th patient you really get comfortable with placing an iv and doing the sedations. we were soooo glad to have him home! he missed us too.. he was not a fan of going back to lonely bachelorhood.
here's a night time view of the downtown skyline.
there happen to be this big red bull festival going on one day at the park.... he said it was crazy busy full of people. he was also fascinated by how many people were just hanging out or sitting around in the parks... they were wanderers who just moved all over the country never settling anywhere just going from place to place.
one day they worked on emergency response training. they had this intense amazing computerized dummy that would have actual things go wrong and you had to quickly think and act as if he were real and fix whatever it was going wrong. i will admit that i have seen this dummy before as they had one on grey's anatomy.. haha chris said it was awesome but nerve wracking trying to stay calm and figure out what was wrong. there was a one way glass where the teachers sat at computers controlling the dummy and watching your response...
this is the view from the 12th floor of the dental school there where they saw their sedation patients. and the pictures below is the outside view of the dental school. big pretty building.
the two women on the left were his assistants who helped him while he sedated patients. they were both from portland.... we had to pay them to help out but they were awesome and worth the money. the picture on the right are the ken reid the course director and the women to the right is a dental anesthesiologist from vegas who teaches this course.
while daddy was gone we decided it was time to potty train for real.... we had tried a couple months ago but with moving and new baby we just gave up... day one was awesome... no pee accidents and he even went number 2 in the potty!!! he was very excited to wear his undies... and pick out his own pair everyday. he didn't have any accidents with pee... but sadly only ever went number two that first day and wont do it at all now. he just waits for the diaper which is fine... its better than doing it in his underwear all the time.
thats not where the underwear goes silly!
daniel also had puppy join in on the underwear party... he carried him around for a while with puppy's own pair on.
it also meant that if we were home (or at the home of anyone in my family) he stripped right down to his underwear first thing.... i thought it was hilarious him out on his scooter in nothing but undies... at least he had his helmet on right?!
here's my super cute boys all ready for church. i found this tiny belt for daniel that i just think is so cute and makes him look so old...
i love this blue sweater vest and blue shirt... they are the same ones daniel wore to church... so cute especially on this blue eyed baby!!
for the most part daniel was awesome the whole time chris was gone... he plays really well alone and is pretty independent to feed himself even. or bring me things to help him open...
but we had one really bad day where i was so tired and crazy hormonal and he wouldn't leave me alone.... i just wanted to do the dishes by myself and he kept shutting the dishwasher or pulling things out so i started crying... haha like with tears and everything... and he said "mommy's crime" (thats how he says crying) and i said yeah bud... mommy's crying. i just need you to go upstairs and play in your room for a bit... next thing i go up there and he's asleep in his window... i let him stay there for an almost 2 hour nap...
we also went on a couple walks. i love seeing this cute little face peeking out from his little carrier....
daniel also got to take a couple fun bubble baths in moms big bath tub.
snuggles with mom.... love these boys.
here's darth antie em.... daniel kept having us put on the mask... david was unphased...
daniel wanted david to come sit next to him.... pretty funny. david is even smiling. he really likes playing with big brother so far.
here's daniel putting his own baby doll on the chair i was trying to get ready to take pics of baby david for his 2 month pics... haha silly boy.
david turned 2 months... he's about 10 pounds and 23 inches now. still tall and skinny... with hair all rubbed off on top. he was not in the mood for pics this day so they aren't great.... he's smiling more and more now. still a great sleeper... giving me about a 6-7 hour stretch every night...
he and daniel definitely look different... daniel has such dark hair and eyes and skin and david is the total opposite... all fair.
they aure do love each other. daniel is hilarious when he talks to him. and david obviously likes it.
they even played in the trunk together for a little while...
and anytime i lay david down on his play mat daniel jumps right in and lays down next to him...
he's also becoming a real master of legos. his dad has shown him enough how to create things so now he just plays all on his own building various things. this was his awesome train he put together all on his own.
my hair started falling out (just post baby shedding) so i decided to chop off my hair. this is called a long bob... or a "lob" i love it. it easy and light and just a fun style. i can even wear my hair totally straight which is something i dont usually do.
david has started grabbing onto the bottle or my hands and fingers when i feed him. its just so sweet.
and of course when daddy finally comes home daniel doesn't want to leave his side... he missed his play buddy...
the most exciting news of august was daniel started preschool!!!! my cousin amy is running a pre school from her home this year. she is a licensed teacher and even went through the county to make this a legitimate pre school. daniel was very excited his first day of school... he looks so big here!!!! i love this outfit we decided to put on... its one that chris' aunt sharon had passed down to us... i just love blue. looks so good on him!!
he had no problem going right in and playing with the toys... (it helped that we had been there a couple times before so he recognized the place and amy) he of course went right in playing with the cars.
the second day of school they were supposed to bring in a family picture... and we of course didn't have any with baby david and hadn't even taken one with daniel in a long time. so i pulled out my tripod and put on the self timer... i would say this one turned out awesome with both boys smiling!!! daniel thought the flashing light and beeping on the camera were hilarious and thats how we got him to smile so well. it was also a perfect way to finish out the month of august!
